'The Last Gunner'

A postcard showing The Last Gunner still at his post after all of his comerades had fallen.

"The Last Gunner"

The caption on the back of this card reads:

One by one the guns were silenced. The men who had been serving them lay dead around.
At last only one man was left. He went on doing his best, working steadily and calmly.

He would have gone on till he dropped under the fire of the Germans, but an officer
called him away. "And you can bet," the Hussar said, "that he was mighty sorry to go."
