Not Afraid to Die

'Not ashamed to die' - a postcard that tells the story of a brave Russian soldier who literally stuck to his guns in the Great War

"Not Ashamed to Die"

The caption on the back of this card reads:

This young Russian soldier was working a field gun under what was described a hellish rain of shrapnel.
One by one his comrades fell, but this youthful gunner did not flinch. Although wounded in the hand
and neck he stuck to his post until some Russian reinforcements came to his aid. "Now I am not ashamed
to die," he exclaimed, and after bursting into tears, lost consciousness. He has been decorated with the
Order of St. George for his great bravery.
